Orange and cornflower blue at La Coldana

The Project

For Alessandra and Erik I imagined a day built on the contrast between two complementary colours: the warmest, most vital orange and the cornflower blue of wildflowers. An unusual, bold palette that accompanied the couple from the church of San Fereolo in Lodi to the eighteenth-century courtyard of La Coldana.

The absolute protagonists were the strelitzias, with their exotic, sculptural shapes, flanked by apricot dahlias, cornflower-blue delphinium and blue thistle, softened by light-blue hydrangeas and chamomile. The orange-and-blue thread ran through every detail: the invitations with their silk ribbons, the decoration of the white Beetle, the large wicker baskets along the nave and on the churchyard, all the way to the bride's bouquet — a vibrant weave of strelitzias and wildflowers tied with orange ribbons.

At La Coldana the story continued among exposed beams and long imperial tables: arrangements in baskets, amber and black candles marking the mise en place, and small touches of colour on the place cards. The final image of the day is the bouquet resting on wood, lit up in the night: the closing note of a floral project that never stopped vibrating.
